Running Club


Although the core function of Limassol Crusaders RFC is that of a rugby club, we are more than just that.
How can that be you may ask?
Fundamental to any sport is fitness. So to help those who wish to either get fit, maintain a level of fitness or increase their fitness for a variety of reasons or goals, 14215454_684128035075984_1974818864_owe at Limassol Crusaders decided to form our own running club.founded by our Assistant Coach, Dave Lee in September 2015 as a way of helping the players to get fit for the season, the running club is now firmly established within the fabric of the club and has gone from strength to strength as it enters it’s 2 nd year. The Running Club meet every Tuesday evening on the seafront in Limassol. They gather at the Home of Limassol Crusaders RFC, Shaka Zulu aka The Clubhouse and take a route along the cycle path towards Molos and Limassol Old town before turning and retracing their steps to finish back at Shaka Zulu where refreshments to aid rehydration are available. Currently the start time is 6:45pm to allow for the heat however the time will be adjusted during to October to 7pm.

There is no set distance as everyone has their own goals and limits however we usually aim to complete 5km. This can be increased depending what you are training for. A number of our running club members regularly enter running events organised around the island which in the past have included the Epi to Aki Gym to Gym Half Marathon, Paphos Half Marathon, Limassol Half Marathon, Limassol 10km and Limassol 5km. This season we aim to have a number of runners entering the various distances when the Limassol Marathon comes to town on 19th March 2017. We are a very social bunch of lads and ladies with the age range of runners from 17 up to 64. So you can see that we are a very inclusive group. running_shield_2

New for this season we are looking to introduce a handicap run once a month. Nothing too serious but just a fun way of measuring improvement and help people set their own goals. The handicap will be run over the 5km distance with each runner setting a time. This time will then be used over the following weeks in setting off the runners at staggered intervals which should means that all runners get back to the finish more or less together.
We also intend to put together a training plan for people to follow, if they want to put some structure to their training.

“I have been a runner most of my life and enjoy putting my trainers on and getting out there. I formed the running club to give everybody a chance to put an hour aside each week for themselves to get out there and run. It adds motivation running alongside others and encourages the less confident runners that they can achieve things they didn’t feel possible” said Dave. “I always say to people that any run even one you might think is a bad one is better than no run at all. I would encourage anyone who fancies it to come and join us and give it a go. You don’t have to run on your own as there will always be someone in the group who will run with you at your pace.”
